I’m a strong believer in artistic community, scenius, hanging out with your creative peers and spurring each other on to greater things. I’m a member of several UK-based comics communities.
WIP Comics
WIP Comics (Work in Progress Comics) is a London-centric, UK-based comic creators group. We have regular meetings to discuss progress on our comic projects, host online lectures on comic making technique, and we produce an annual anthology of indie comics together with our members. The last couple of years, the anthologies have gotten large enough to require Kickstarter campaigns to get them printed.
My comic no (change) for you can be found in the 2023 anthology, and Telling Stories can be found in the 2024 edition.
2025, you ask? Well, who’s to say for now…
Sketcho!
Weekly drawing meetup in Brewdog Shepherd’s Bush, West London. Every Monday we choose a theme We draw together on a large sheet tapestry. Brainchild of community mastermind and idea powerhouse, Emmanuel.
Sav Fai
Some of the Sketcho! Members also organise a bimonthly live music + art exhibition called Sav Fai at Brewdog Shepherd’s Bush. The next one is on April 7th. Come along to see live music and look at some cool art, maybe even get your tarot read. You might even decide to buy one of my prints. Entry is free!
Monthly Manga Meetup (London)
The brainchild of Dan Byron, Monthly Manga Meetup grew out of a bunch of us hanging out at the pub every year after the award ceremony for the Japanese Embassy’s Manga Jiman competition. We meet more or less monthly in a London pub to play drawing games together and chat comics over a drink.
Manga Jiman
One of the big UK comic competitions, hosted annually by the Japanese embassy in London, this competition has been running for some 18 years now. I have entered no fewer than 7 times, completed partial entries a couple more times (including for the very first edition back in 2007!), and have won 4th place on three separate occasions. Fourth time’s the charm…!
